The Fifth International Conference on Braiding was held in Svendborg, Denmark in August 14-20, 2022. It was held at a lovely venue in Svendborg on the south coast of the island of Funen. Getting there from the International airport near Copenhagen is an easy 2.5 hour train journey and the entire group will be able to stay together in a lovely setting for both accommodation, meals and workshops. We are aware that international travel is expensive and it is our priority to make this affordable. We have created a wonderful programme of workshops, taster sessions and lectures that will provide a full week of learning, experiencing new cultures, meeting up with old friends and making new ones. Covid 19 has affected everyone around the world but with the vaccines available and the work in Denmark, we are confident that by August 2022, we will be able to meet. We are highlighting Nordic braid techniques such as tablet weaving, loop manipulation, rigid heddle/inkle braiding, fingerweaving, sprang, lace, whipcording, tatting, nalbinding and lucet and their counterparts in the rest of the world. There are also be workshops in kumihimo techniques (although we cannot provide large equipment), ply-split braiding and others. |
