Braids 2025: Rocking Braids & Bands is the sixth International conference on braids and narrow weaves and held jointly by the American Kumihimo Society and The Braid Society.  The conference is scheduled for June 15-21, 2025 at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH.

Four full days of classes, daily keynote speakers,  plus one day filled with a variety of field trips including behind the scenes tours at the Museum of Art.

Registration will remain open until the end of April 2025.

While some classes are full already, there are many open ones that appeal to a variety of students: from weavers, braiders, to lace makers, and just pain curious artists.  We have classes on tablet weaving, inkle loom weaving, ply-split braiding, sprang, kumihimo (Madurai and Takadai), and a variety of other techniques such as lace making, temari ball embroidery, tassel making, designing garments with braids, creativity, and much more.

Do not miss this great opportunity to learn from international renowned teachers and scholars and meet kindred spirits from around the world.

Details on the registration and program are available on the American Kumihimo Society’s website:  braids2025.com.

How to join in with the Online Workshops

Each of our online workshops is run by an expert braiding tutor over 3 – 4 weeks via written instructions and live Zoom sessions.  The Zoom sessions are recorded and available to view for 1 week after each session.

Weeks 1 and 2 are delivered via BraidsandBands on groups.io.  If you are not already on BraidsandBands, you will need to create an account on groups.io and ask to join the BraidsandBands group as follows:

  • Click on “Sign up” and create an account using your email address and a password of your choice (at least 6 characters long) and click on “create an account”.

  • You will be sent a confirmation email.  Click on the link within the email to confirm your account.  This takes you back to the website and enables you to customise your account, find groups and create groups.

  • To find “BraidsandBands”, click on “Find groups”, search for “BraidsandBands” and click on the link.

Week 3 of our online workshops is offered to Braid Society members only.  Members should log into this website, go to the MEMBERS’ AREA and click on BRAIDS WORKSHOP FORUM.  Each workshop is listed and the messages and downloads are posted into the workshop files.  If you subscribe to the Forum, or to a particular workshop, you will receive email notifications when new information is posted.

If you have any problems registering with BraidsandBands or logging into the website, contact admin “at” braidsociety.com.
