Workshop description:
The tiny ʻstrawberryʼ purse in the Metropolitan Museum (accession number 29.23.23) was originally described as crochet. However, Jacqui has revived the historic technique to create a replica. This beautiful little purse is made entirely of little stitches (no fabric!) and can be easily worked in the hand, making it an ideal travel project. During the workshop, Jacqui will share her research work by discussing other surviving examples and their context. The Metropolitanʼs purse will be examined in detail, answering such questions as to why the design goes wonky! Students will have the opportunity to practice the techniques before making their own version of the strawberry purse, or the Ring ‘O Roses version based on Lynn Hulse’s purse. All materials provided.
